The Striper Surf Club's 5th Annual Beach Clean Up Sunday April 23, 2006

The Striper Surf Club, Inc. held it's 5th Annual Beach Clean Up at the Jones Beach State Park, West End north side parking area on Sunday April 23, 2006.  This year's event was a great success with over 35 local volunteers removing debris, and household garbage from our beautiful beaches.  Unlike last year's event this year we all worked in the pouring rain!

I think everyone left with not only a good feeling about keeping our beaches clean but with a full stomach and a few nice raffle prizes. We would like to also thank all the hard working members of the Striper Surf Club for putting this all together and the NYS Parks Department.

We had representations from Farragut Striper Club, Gateway Striper Club, Mid-Island Surfcasters, High Hill Striper Club, Bayside Anglers Group, CCA, LIBBA, MSA (Willy Young) and many non-club members. If I left anyone out please forgive us.

We had over 20 contributing tackle sponsors. Please frequent these retailers and tackle shops. They are Aqua Skinz,, Freddie’s B&T of Montauk, Causeway B&T of Wantagh, Kwaks B&T of Wantagh, The Causeway Deli of Wantagh, Orvis of Greenvale, CCA, LIBBA, Salty Dog Fishing School, Thule Rod Racks, Lipper Gripper, Bill Wetzel,, Camp-site Sports Huntington, Lamiglas, Frambill, Van Staal, Power Pro Fishing Line, and Saint Croix.

Most unusual find was by Brain Reynolds who found several hand made rock sinkers. (See picture below) Brian received a sterling silver striped bass fishing pin by

The best find was probably by Glenn of the Farragut Striper Club besides trash he picked up a $10 bill. The rest of us pick up a bunch of trash, but no money Laughing We filled up a NYS Truck with plenty of trash today.

The Striper Surf Club, Inc. would like to say Thank You for all your help! Keeping these beaches clean and access open is an important issue to all surf clubs and surf rats. We care about our environment and the people who came to help demonstrated that volunteerism is still alive and well on Long Island. Those who brought their children to the clean up get an extra thank you! You lead by example! Smile It was also nice to meet & put faces with the folks here on the internet!
